WOW! Run (or better yet, ride) to the Museum of Art and Design to see ‘Bespoke: The Handbuilt Bicycle.’

Organized by Michael Maharam (the owner of Maharam and avid bicycle collector) and Sacha White (builder of Vanilla bicycles Portland, Oregon), the show introduces viewers to 21 road racing, cyclocross, mountain and commuter bicycles - even a child’s tricycle.

The exhibition features bicycles by: Mike Flanigan, Alternative Needs Transportation (A.N.T); Jeff Jones, Jeff Jones Custom Bicycles; Dario Pegoretti, Pegoretti Cicli; Richard Sachs, Richard Sachs Cycles; J. Peter Weigle, J. Peter Weigle Cycles; and Sacha White, Vanilla Bicycles. It is insane!

make, do with these pencil tips

RISD MFA Graphic Design’s graduating class has created a physical and virtual pop-up shop called RISD MAKE DO that will sell work related to our academic thesis process. The shop will be open at the graduate show from 20 May to 5 June and will sell original books, posters, tote bags, tshirts and more. There are plans this summer to travel to New York and other locations as well.

My favorite things at the shop thus far are Heather Phillips‘ ‘Pencil Tips.’ Heather has created a set of five pencils, each imprinted with a catchy graphic design phrase. Fun!

If you can’t make it to Providence, check it out online here or on their blog.

Check out the Horton Collection here. Brett hopes to have at least 15,000 objects and 20,000 photographs scanned and online at some point soon.

Aung San Suu Kyi portrait by Shepard Fairey

The final show at Deitch Projects opens this evening and it’s a ‘giant’ one.

“Deitch Projects is pleased to present May Day, an exhibition of new work by Shepard Fairey, as its final project. Titled not only in reference to the day of the exhibition’s opening, the multiple meanings of May Day resonate throughout the artist’s new body of work. Originally a celebration of spring and the rebirth it represents, May Day is also observed in many countries as International Worker’s Day or Labor Day, a day of political demonstrations and celebrations coordinated by unions and socialist groups. “Mayday” is also the distress signal used by pilots, police and firefighters in times of emergency.”
