Another ICFF fave of mine is the SheetSeat by Ufuk Keskin and Efecem Kutuk.
SheetSeat is made from a single piece of wood laminate. The production process is straightforward, generating almost no waste. The simplicity of the design allows for savings in workmanship, manufacturing and transportation costs and energy consumption. The flat panel can be unfolded into the final chair position in a few easy steps, and folded back into the original 3/4 inch thick sheet, facilitating easy stacking and bulk transportation….and apartment storage.
Unfortunately, SheetSeat is still a work in progress. Please email: ufuk@ufukkeskin.com for more information or if you are interested in collaborating to bring it to life.

One of my favorite things at this year’s ICFF has got to be Mio’s flatpack Pop-Up Bicycle Basket. The basket is part of Mio’s 2010 “Design on the Go” collection. Available soon.

Stephanie Casper is an advertising and design student in her last year at Pratt institute. In her spare time, she likes to watch cartoons
and knit meat…and make rainwear from those ubiquitous blue and yellow Ikea bags. Go to Instructables for details and a pattern so you can make your own.

Check out these cool cabinets made by Denmark-based Søren Rose Studio.
The first incarnation of the line was created in 2008, utilizing recycled gym floorboards. Søren Rose Studio paired the familiar graphic lines of each board with a simple silhouette, creating a collection of unique modern pieces that pay homage to the materials’ original use.
Today, while mass-produced, the pieces continue to implement eco-friendly materials such as renewable pine, controlled Danish oak and water-based fixatives and varnishes. Gymnasium is sold globally by Mater and crafted by Denmark’s oldest cabinetmakers, Bruno Hansen Company.

Designed for people in metropolitan areas, the Growing Necklace gives you the opportunity to take a little bit of greenery with you.
Like any plant, the necklace will need to be watered and nurtured. For best results water it only once every 4-5 weeks. If properly maintained, the moss can stay green for up to 8 - 12 months.
Growing Necklace is available here for $189. Also available as a ring.

Wave is a sleek door-hanging cardboard scratcher that looks more like modern art than a cat product. It is held together with compression, eliminating the need for any adhesive. This also allows you to easily replace the cardboard when it becomes worn. Simply remove the used cardboard pieces from the reusable aluminum frame and replace with a new cardboard refill. The anodized aluminum frame hangs from all styles of doorknobs and has a silicone doorknob protector.
Wave is available from the Moderncat Studio Etsy shop for $45 US and replacement cardboard can be ordered for $20.

The Q Drum makes transporting potable water a lot easier.
Of the world’s total population of 6.5 billion, 5.8 billion people, or 90%, have little or no access to most of the products and services many of us take for granted; in fact, nearly half do not have regular access to food, clean water, or shelter. Design for the Other 90% explores a growing movement among designers to design low-cost solutions for this “other 90%.” Through partnerships both local and global, individuals and organizations are finding unique ways to address the basic challenges of survival and progress faced by the world’s poor and marginalized.
